Primary Purpose:

Responsible for creating, informing, maintaining, and modifying school bus route schedules for over 6,000 students. Maintains communication with Transportation Director, administrators and parents concerning bus route schedules.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

Valid Texas commercial driver’s license (Class B or Class A with Passenger and School Bus Driver   

Endorsements)

Texas School Bus Driver Certification

 

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Conflict resolution skills

Possess skills necessary to operate personal computer and be willing to learn various software programs

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Ability to communicate effectively

Knowledge of general office equipment

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

  1. Supervise school bus routes for Department of Transportation

 

  1. Develop, modify and maintain currency of all regular, prekinder and bilingual bus routes in accordance with rules and regulations for the Texas Education Agency

 

  1. Responsible for gathering all necessary information and preparation of TEA State Reports for regular and kindergarten transportation for final submission to Transportation Director

 

  1. Answer all queries from district patrons and school personnel regarding bus eligibility for students, as well as coordinating and distributing all bus information and schedules to district schools

 

  1. Supervise and coordinate the scheduling of state directed student counts to determine average annual ridership

 

  1. Assist Director in projects and determine the need for additional state routes

 

  1. Maintain a thorough knowledge of the routing system utilized by the Transportation Department and analyze demographics pertaining to enrollment and ridership.

 

  1. Maintain a thorough knowledge of the attendance boundaries, city streets and plans for future growth in the district

 

  1. Report to work on time

 

  1. Maintain confidentiality of all information

 

  1. May be required to operate a school bus when called upon

 

Equipment Used:

Radio communication equipment, computer, typewriter, telephone, intercom system, copier, fax machine, school buses and other district vehicles.  Wheelchair lift and ramps.

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.  May need to use physical restraint with students.
