Primary Purpose:
Operate twelve (12) passenger bus and/or other white fleet vehicle and all related equipment to provide safe and orderly transportation for students and other authorized persons to and from schools and other designated locations. This position is for new bus drivers working towards their CDL license and is a temporary assignment until the CDL is obtained.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to pass alcohol and drug tests and agility test and annual physical
Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Effective communication skills
Ability to manage student behavior
Ability to operate motor vehicle
Proficient map reading skills
Education/Certification:
Clear and valid Texas driver’s license
Must be at least 21 years of age
Employee will have 45 days from time of employment to obtain CDL

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Operate twelve (12) passenger bus or other white fleet vehicle and all related equipment safely and effectively.
- Follow assigned route and adhere to established schedules.
- Drive assigned vehicle to and from extracurricular activities.
- Perform pre- and post-trip inspections according to specifications to ensure vehicle can be operated safely and notify supervisor of needed repairs.
- Report all accidents/incidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical problems and complete required corresponding reports.
- Complete and maintain accurate, updated, and timely records and reports including but not limited to those related to bus mileage, gas and oil consumption, and number of passengers transported.
- Keep assigned vehicle clean/neat and maintain appropriate level of fuel.
- Maintain effective behavior management control over groups of students; report student discipline problems to appropriate administrator.
- Supervise students while they board and exit the vehicle and cross the street.
- Instruct students on safe entering, exiting, and riding rules and regulations.
- Perform emergency evacuation of students on vehicle if necessary.
- Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for motor vehicles.
- Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as but not limited to first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, flares, crow bar, and reflector.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area that could cause an accident and inform supervisor of any hazards that are not immediately correctable.
- Report immediately any hazardous conditions along the route.
- Anticipate problems such as traffic, students, weather, road conditions, schedule changes, etc. and make necessary adjustments to ensure student safety and reduce delays.
- Attend and complete required training programs.
- Establish and maintain good rapport with students, parents, school personnel, and co-workers.
- Operate and monitor two-way radio equipment to communicate with transportation office and other drivers.
- Assist other drivers when necessary.
- May be assigned to work as a bus aide when necessary.

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; occasional districtwide travel. Work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperature (hot) and vehicle fumes.
