Description

Primary Purpose:

To provide continuous, smooth and efficient operation of school health services during the absence of the campus clinic staff.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Graduate from an accredited high school or GED

Must have valid current Texas RN or LVN license

Current CPR

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Skill in communication; organization; problem-solving; critical thinking; and flexibility.
  • Ability to follow care plan for students; manage student behavior; make decisions quickly an independently; understand written and verbal instructions; communicate effectively; and handle stressful situations in a calm and efficient manner.

 

Experience:

One year experience in health-related position, including contact with school-age children

 

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

  1. Evaluate ill and injured children and communicate with parents as needed.
  2. Administer First Aide, CPR, or AED as needed.
  3. Administer medication as prescribed and in compliance with State law and District policy.
  4. Follow students’ medical protocol.
  5. Comply with all Nursing Practice Act regulations.
  6. Manage student behavior.
  7. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  8. Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance to ensure a consistent focus on student learning.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

Equipment Used:

Thermometer, blood pressure cuff, audiometer, otoscope, sphygmomanometer, vision screening equipment, thermoscan, basic clinic equipment, personal computer, and copier

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting: Lifting; may be required to lift 50-80 pounds unassisted; may be required to lift 81-200 pounds assisted.

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; occasional districtwide travel. Potential exposure to bodily fluids and communicable diseases.

 

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
