Description | Primary Purpose
Perform general maintenance and repair of building structures and their mechanical, electrical, and sanitary systems throughout the district.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Valid Texas Driver’s license
Special Knowledge Skills:
Basic knowledge of repairs and installation techniques for plumbing systems, electrical systems,
doors, hardware, maintenance, and roofs.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
Ability to operate hand and power tools
Ability to work independently
Ability to communicate effectively (verbally)
Experience:
Three years experience in field
Three years in general building maintenance
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Maintenance and Repair
- Perform general maintenance and repair of district facilities, including repairing woodwork, replacing electrical switches, fixtures and motors; painting, repairing and replacing plumbing fixtures and drainage systems; and replacing broken glass.
- Install and repair pipes, fittings, values, fixtures, and plumbing system equipment, including sinks, commodes, water heaters, water softeners, etc.
- Assist in performing gas inspection of all district facilities.
- Repair dishwashers and kitchen equipment that incorporate gas or water consumption.
- Receive and complete work orders.
- Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
- Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment and materials assigned to him.
- Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established
inspection procedures.
- Oversee and manage lock and key system throughout district.
- Hang mirrors, blackboards, bulletin boards, towel and soap dispensers, and other
items as required.
- Install door and window assemblies and hardware, including window glass and screens.
- Install ceiling and flooring materials.
- Assist with installing and connecting power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical
apparatus for machines and equipment in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blue prints.
- Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using rulers,
measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threader, and conduit bender.
- Repair of electrical appliances, including commercial ovens, ranges, steam tables,
washers, dryers etc.
- Build and repair casework, bookshelves, cabinets, and other woodworking projects as assigned.
- Inspect and maintain roofing systems district wide.
- Respond to emergency calls as needed.
Safety
- Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
- Help keep vehicle and equipment in safe operating condition.
- Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required.

Equipment Used
Hand and power tools; pipe bender; propane torch; welding equipment; sewer auger, heavy equipment
including forklift, trencher, backhoe, multimeter, ohmmeter, oscilloscope, testing equipment, soldering iron, wire puller, pipe bender, trencher, jackhammer, concrete saw, ladder, hand and power tools and light truck or van.

Continual walking and standing; frequent heavy lifting and carrying; climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling,
and reaching. Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, around gas lines, around fumes and toxic
chemicals outside and inside. Exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, and odors. Exposure to
mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards. Work around moving objects or vehicles.
