Description

Primary Purpose:

 

Assist teacher in preparation and management of Pre-Kinder HeadStart classroom activities. Work under supervision of certified teacher in an early childhood center campus.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Certification:

Associates Degree (or higher) or

Paraprofessional Assessment Certificate plus CDA

and

Educational Aide Certificate issued by SBEC

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to work well with young children

Ability to communicate effectively

 

Minimum Experience:

Experience working with young children

 

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Instructional Support

 

  1. Confers with and assists the teacher in preparing instructional materials, classroom displays, and arranging materials for the day’s activities. 
  1. Operates and cares for classroom and office equipment used for instructional purposes, which may include the computer and other digital devices. 
  1. Provides orientation and assistance to substitute teachers. 
  1. Assists the teacher in devising special strategies to differentiate instruction for individual students based on their needs, interests and abilities.

     5. Administers tests that are required for identified students. 

  1. Assists in assessment of students as requested by the teacher.

 

 

Student Management

 

  1. Active supervision of students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom, with focused attention and intentional observation of children at all times. 
  1. Works with individual students, small group or large group activities, to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.

  

Other 

 

     9.  Participates in activities that contribute to job assignment, including transition scans and counting procedures. 

  1. Participates in in-service training programs, faculty meetings, and special events, as needed. 
  1. Performs related duties as assigned. 
  1. Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully certified teachers. 
  1. Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, and administrative regulations, HeadStart regulations and state and local board policy.
