Primary Purpose:
Assist Grounds Foreman with supervising daily activities of grounds and athletic field’s maintenance operations to ensure district grounds are safe, neat, and attractive.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or GED
Valid Texas driver’s license
Special Knowledge Skills:
Knowledge of landscape and athletic field’s maintenance
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and landscape plans
Ability to communicate (verbally)
Ability to operate heavy equipment, including backhoe and trencher
Ability to operate riding or power mower, power tools, and hand tools
Ability to direct and supervise personnel and coordinate grounds operations
Experience:
Two years’ experience in grounds/ landscape maintenance
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Grounds and Landscaping
- Assist Grounds Foreman with assigning all grounds work and oversee completion.
- Assist Grounds Foreman with assigning priority to work orders and process them, including tracking of labor and material use.
- Assist Grounds Foreman with estimating the cost and time required for special projects and order materials.
- Interpret blueprints, plans and sketches to carry out landscape designs.
- Assist Grounds Foreman with establishing care and watering schedules, including spraying, fertilizing, pruning etc.
- Operate and maintain equipment used for grounds operations, including backhoe, trencher, tractor, riding and power mowers, etc.
- Inspect grounds and facilities and initiate needed repairs, including the building and repair of fences and gates.
- Install, test, adjust, and repair sprinkler systems.
Safety
- Assist Grounds Foreman with instructing assigned personnel on proper and safe use of tools and equipment.
- Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
- Ensure that vehicles, equipment, and tools are in safe operating condition.
- Inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
Inventory and Equipment
- Assist Grounds Foreman with coordinating the storage and use of all grounds equipment, tools and supplies.
- Assist Grounds Foreman with preparing, implement and maintain preventive maintenance and repair procedures for grounds equipment and tools.
- Assist Grounds Foreman with ordering equipment and supplies and maintain accurate records.
- Assist Grounds Foreman with recommending replacement of existing equipment.
- Assist Grounds Foreman with conducting annual inventory of physical equipment and supplies.
Other
- Work irregular hours and respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed.
- Assist in recruiting, screening, training, and evaluation of grounds employees.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility
Assist Grounds Foreman with supervising and evaluating work of groundskeepers.
Equipment Used
Heavy equipment, including backhoe, trencher, and grader blade; tractor and attachments, riding and power mower, gas-powered trimmer, blower, edger, sprayer, striping machine, garden and hand tools, posthole auger, aerator, and light truck or van.
Working Conditions
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying. Work outside and around moving objects or vehicles. Exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals (herbicides and fertilizer), and loud noises. Frequent districtwide travel.
